Amy O’Connor shares what it’s like travelling around Ireland in a campervan with her boyfriend Danny Morrissey.

The couple decided to buy one last year and they now spend their time away from home adventuring.

She shares some tips for people looking to purchase their own campervan with one important warning.

Amy told RSVP Live: “We actually upgraded recently, we bought a new campervan and sold our last home so this ones a bit more luxurious.

“We’re travelling away when we can at the weekends but when we’re training we come home. Any chance we get we head away.”

The camogie player didn’t think she would buy a campervan so soon, saying: “It was something I always wanted to do but when I was 65 and retired.”

However, Amy admitted that she and her boyfriend know more now than they did going into travelling in a campervan.

“We learned a lot from our first one in terms of what we wanted and what we were looking for. For the new one we were able to pick and choose what we wanted, in terms of layout.

“It has become very popular but what I would say to people is that there’s a lot of rubbish on the market.”

She added: “Be careful buying one because they’re a huge investment and they’re really expensive.

“Their prices haven’t dropped. I thought it would after the pandemic but they seemed to have maintained their value.”

She has a busy schedule between working in tech, playing camogie and travelling but explains that she has managed to balance everything.

“I’ve just adjusted to it. I work for a technology company and we have a work from anywhere policy which allows me to work from the van if we were away on a Monday or Tuesday.”

Amy shares that travelling in a campervan with her boyfriend is “very spontaneous” but it’s been good spending the time together.

“It’s been grand, thank God because I don’t have to do any of the driving. Danny does all the driving so I’m the one directing.”

She joked: “I’m not very good on the Sat Nav, I tend to get a bit distracted here and there so sometimes he gives out. It’s all good. He’s a good driver and can manage it quite well.”
